BRISTOL -- U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, former Democratic presidential contender, waved but said nothing to media and neighbors gathered outside a fundraiser for her at the home of Alan Hassenfeld, chairman of the board at Pawtucket-based Hasbro Inc.

The New York senator left at about 3 p.m., getting immediately into a black SUV and waving at those gathered. She had arrived around 1:30 p.m., wearing sunglasses and a red outfit.

According to Rhode Island Democrats who came out of the house and spoke to media, including Rhode Island party chairman William Lynch and Bristol state Rep. Raymond Gallison, Clinton talked about the economy.

They also said she reiterated her support for her one-time foe for the Democratic presidential nomination, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, and his ability to deal with economic problems.

The former first lady's visit generated high security and the press was kept at a distance, but East Bay Bike Path passes right by the house and many bicyclists were stopping to see if they could catch a glimpse.

The U.S. Secret Service, the Bristol police and the State Police guarded the house during the visit, and a Coast Guard boat patrolled nearby.

As for the food -- it was apparently not lunch, but cookies.
