WOONSOCKET -- Police said today they were looking for a 21-year-old city man in connection with a pair of late Monday-night shootings that left two men in "serious but fair" condition.

Suspect Lawrence E. Wright

Police identified the suspect as Lawrence E. Wright, 21, of Burnside Avenue. A warrant has been issued for Wright charging him with two counts of attempted murder.

In a written statement, police said the shootings began after four men, two pairs of friends, got into an argument at around 11:28 p.m. in the area of the Quick Mart on Diamond Hill Road.

"Weapons were introduced in the conflict," police said, and one man was shot. The shooter and his associate fled on foot to a waiting car and left the scene.

Police said the victim and his friend then got into their car and gave chase, ramming the shooter's car from behind. The shooter stopped his car in the area of Social and Estes streets, police said. At that point, the victim's friend got out and approached the shooter's car and was shot as well. The gunman and his associate fled on foot.

Police said Wright should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone sees him, they should not approach him but call the Woonsocket Police Department at 766-1212 or 911 with as much detail of his whereabouts, clothing description and/or vehicle information associated with him.
