The state police arrested two men on several charges following the alleged larceny of items from a salvage yard.

Chester J. Rogers, 35, of 8 Chestnut Ave., Cranston, was charged with attempted larceny over $500, conspiracy to commit larceny, and being a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts, according to a state police news release. A Superior Court warrant for his arrest had been issued on a previous charge, the state police said.

Richard D. Larkin, 41, of 8 Tanglewood Court, West Warwick, was charged with attempted larceny over $500 and conspiracy to commit larceny, according to the police.

On Thursday, at 11:20 p.m., Hope Valley Barracks troopers went to Richmond Diesel and F&G Salvage yard, at 530 Nooseneck Hill Rd., Exeter, for a reported larceny in progress. A Richmond Diesel and F&G Salvage Yard employee told the police he he witnessed a pick-up truck back into the salvage yard, park, and turn off the headlights. He said two males got out of the pick-up and began walking onto the grounds, one of them carrying a flashlight.

Troopers searched and quickly found one man, later identified as Rogers, whom the police said was in possession of a flashlight and wearing a dark, long sleeve sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark gloves. More troopers, with help from Richmond police, searched and found Larkin, whom the police said wore dark clothing and was lying in a wooded area along the salvage yard's perimeter of the salvage yard. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Larkin was released on $25,000 personal recognizance.

Rogers was held without bail on the fugitive from justice charge and taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions. He will appear for a bail review hearing on Monday in District Court. He was also given $25,000 surety bail for the attempted larceny and conspiracy charges.
