Closing arguments that had been scheduled for today in the trial of two former Roger Williams Medical Center executives have been postponed as a result of the injury and hospitalization of one of the defendants. According to the clerk for Chief U.S. District Judge Mary M. Lisi, jurors have been asked to come to court at 9 a.m. today to receive instructions from the judge about what will happen next in the case. There was no word on what the judge will say. Frances P. Driscoll, the hospital's former vice president for public relations and development, was injured Monday when she fell descending the steps of the federal courthouse building in Providence. She is scheduled for surgery on her arm today. Driscoll and Robert A. Urciuoli, the hospital's former president and chief executive officer, are facing federal corruption charges. The two are charged with paying former state Sen. John Celona to promote the hospital's interests at the State House. |
