Rains that could be heavy at times are expected to begin in Rhode Island tonight and could continue through tomorrow, adding up to 3 to 5inches over that period and raising potential for flooding in some places. The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency issued a news release today in which Executive Director J. David Smith urges the public to take precautions "against low land and habitual flooding and to clean eaves and storm drain covers." The National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., put the start of showers mainly after 1 a.m. The Emergency Management Agency said rains could start showing up at 8 o'clock tonight. Also, the EMA said it is keeping its eye on a tropical disturbance north of the Dominican Republic that could affect Rhode Island on Saturday, possibly delivering more rainfall. There are plans to activate the state Emergency Operations Center currently but EMA said it will do so if needed. |
