By W. Zachary Malinowski PROVIDENCE -- A city man was seriously wounded on Saturday morning after an unknown assailant shot him in the upper chest, the police said. Richard ``Ricky'' Saunders, 32, of 118 Donelson St., was in stable condition last night in Rhode Island Hospital where he is expected to recover from the shooting. Detective Capt. Hugh Clements said that at 3:12 a.m. the police reported to a call of shots fired near 15 Sassafras St. in the city's South Side. The responding officers found Saunders with a gunshot wound on the sidewalk near the corner of Early and Broad streets. Clements said that Saunders suffered ``a serious gunshot wound that traveled directly through his chest,'' and exited through his back. No arrests have been made the shooting is under investigation. |
