JAMESTOWN -- The chairman of the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority is recommending a compromise discount plan on transponder purchases under the EZ-Pass system the authority will inaugurate for the Pell Bridge in the next few months. David Darlington said today that the cost of a Rhode Island transponder would be $10. The authority had previously proposed charging $20.95. It plans to charge motorists with out-of-state transponders $1.75 for a discounted bridge toll (it's $2 if paid in cash), while owners of Rhode Island transponders would pay only 83 cents to cross the bridge -- the current discounted token price. Owners of out-of-state transponders had complained about the discrepancy. -- Journal staff CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published. We Ct folks, that commute to NUWCDIVNPT every day, should also be considered for the reduce rates on the purchase of a transponder and the Rate to traverse over the Bridge. There is not one of us that can afford the increase from 83 cents to $2 per trip accross the bridge. We all pay RI Income Tax and should be considered a RI resident and receive the same discounts.
