Zachary Malinowski PROVIDENCE -- Closing arguments in the delayed federal corruption trial of two former Roger Williams Medical Center executives are scheduled to begin today at 9 a.m. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi is set to allow the defense team for Robert A. Urciuoli, the hospital's former president; and Frances P. Driscoll, the hospital's one-time vice president for external affairs, make their final arguments to the jury. Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's office also will be allowed to state their reasons why the duo should be convicted and sent to prison. The trial has been delayed since last Monday when Driscoll, 69, fell on the granite courthouse steps and shattered her upper left arm. She underwent surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. Driscoll plans to be in court today, according to her daughter. The jury is expected to begin its deliberations tomorrow. |
