REHOBOTH, Mass. -- Three people have been taken to area hospitals after an ambulance rolled onto its side and slid several feet. Injuries are not life-threatening, according to Paul McGovern, the officer in charge at the scene. Tremont Street and a nearby road were closed to traffic for more than three hours after the accident at 11:21 a.m. The ambulance, which was heading east on Tremont Street, ran into a trailer in the breakdown lane. The ambulance tipped over onto the driver's side. No one was in the trailer, which was being loaded with heavy equipment from a nearby business. The accident happened in the area of 260 Tremont St. The ambulance driver, an emergency medical technician and a patient were in the ambulance at the time. Seekonk, Rehoboth and Attleboro emergency personnel worked at the scene. State police and Rehoboth police are reconstructed how the accident occurred. -- With reports from Journal staff writer Alisha A. Pina |
