Newport police are investigating a fire in the parking lot of the Newport Grand casino. A call came in at about 3:15 p.m. yesterday for the fire. When police and fire arrived, they found a 26-year-old woman with burns covering about 80 percent of her body, according to police Lt. William Fitzgerald. She was about 30 feet away from a car that was on fire. At this time, Fitzgerald said, the fire does not appear suspicious. She was taken to Newport Hospital, and then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. -- projo.com staff writer Brandie M. Jefferson |
