It is, without a doubt, a beautiful day to take a canoe or a kayak out into the Bay. There are no wood chips or yellow lines on the trial, but there will be nine launch points between Portsmouth and Newport, allowing boaters to get out and walk around some of the most scenic areas of the state. At today's opening ceremony, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse will join Rep. Patrick Kennedy and state Sen. M. Teresa Paiva Weed, at a the trail's first launch point, the Weaver Cove Boat Ramp, off Burma Road, in Portsmouth. They'll speak at the first of two launch points that are already installed. The Governor was also invited, and so is the public -- bring a canoe or a kayak if you want and be one of the first to check out the new trail. The ceremony -- a part of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission's West-Side Master Plan -- side is set to begin at 10 a.m. today.
