A section of Broadway in Pawtucket, across from Doyle Manor, was cordoned off by police as they investigated the fatal shooting this morning.

PAWTUCKET -- A 63-year-old Pawtucket man who was shot to death this morning has been identified by police as Carl M. Seebeck, the brother of Pawtucket police detective Capt. John Seebeck.

Seebeck, of 100 West Cole St., was walking from his home to catch a bus, when he was confronted and attacked, according to Pawtucket police Maj. John Whiting. The attack appeared to be random and may have been the result of an attempted robbery, Whiting said.

Seebeck was found wounded on Broadway this morning and died of gunshot wounds, the police said at midday. Initial police reports indicated the victim died of stab wounds.

The state Medical Examiner has since determined the injury was caused by gunshot, according to the latest statement from police.

The police went to the area around 300 Broadway after someone reported a man down at about 4:30 a.m., according to a police news release.

The victim was taken to Pawtucket Memorial Hospital, where he died from the injury, the police said.

The Pawtucket police were conducting an intense investigation on Broadway for several hours. The police shut down a section of the road and kept moving the "do not cross" perimeter farther along Broadway.

Investigators were sorting through trash, dredging the sewers and searching along the gutters. About a dozen official vehicles and investigators were combing the streets for a few blocks.

The police frisked a young man near the scene and appear to be interviewing him, and several people at the scene left to give statements to police.

I think it's obvious that the Police are looking for a gun.

Does anyone still watch Law & Order?

Lot of gang bangers showing up on police radar people.

Roland, what does your comment have to do with the unfortunate situation? Are you that cold that you leave random comments like this?

my uncle was a good man. How anyone could do such a horrible thing to a 63 year old man on his way to work is beyond me. i hope everyone out there remembers that he was a husband, father, son, brother and uncle. we are numb. the terrible way he died will haunt me forever, and his absence will leave a hole in my family that can never be filled. i only hope that when the animal who did this is caught, my family will find some peace in knowing that justice will be served.

I remember Carl from the train station parking lot. He was decent and helpful man to harried commuters. I only just learned of his death.
