A Guatemalan man accused of carjacking, raping and robbing a woman in June will still be held without bail following his arraignment this morning in Superior Court. Marco Riz's lawyer entered not guilty pleas on his behalf in Kent Superior Court. Riz, a 26-year-old living illegally in this country, faces charges of kidnapping, first-degree robbery, and two counts of first-degree sexual assault. The police say on June 8, Riz, 26, got into an SUV with a woman who was waiting for her mother at a Warwick grocery store. The police allege that Riz, brandishing a knife, robbed the woman, then drove her car to Roger Williams Park in Providence, where he raped her. Afterwards, the police say, Riz drove the woman's car to Elmwood Avenue, near Roger Williams Avenue, where he left the woman and the SUV behind. Riz said little during the arraignment before Judge Francis Darign. Speaking through an interpreter, he provided his name and date of birth. Family members of the victim sat in the front row with Providence Det. Robert Miele, who worked with Warwick police in arresting Riz. Riz has held at the Adult Correctional Institutions. His next court date is Oct. 8. -- With reports from Journal staff writer Amanda Milkovits CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published. I will absolutely scream if I see or hear of ONE pro-illegal immigration group begging for the release of this criminal.
I hope that somehow, somebody, somewhere finds a way of putting this guy away for a life term. However, let the raped woman determine the place where he'll serve that term. I hear there's a nice prison up in Alaska surrounded by nothing but ice, freezing cold and polar bears. Hungry polar bears.
