WARREN -- An inflatable raft and an apparent child's life vest seen in the Warren River spurred a search today, but there have been no related reports of missing persons, local police said. At about 10:40 a.m., a construction employee working on the Warren Bridge saw the items floating in the river and notified the Warren police. The raft was taken out of the water -- close to a National Grid power plant -- and the life vest was located by a boat moored in the Palmer River, north of the Warren Bridge, according to the release. The Warren harbormaster and the Fire Department headed boat searches in the area in case of a fallen person in the river, and the state Department of Environmental Management and the Coast Guard were notified to help with the search. The search yielded no results. Warren police Sgt. Roland Brule said that the department will halt the search unless there is a report of someone missing. It is still unknown who the raft or the life vest belongs to, he said. -- Journal staff writer Chloe Thompson |
