HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Connecticut man says he is convinced the mysterious man accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter in Boston was a German student who boarded with his family decades ago.

Steve Savio of Berlin says he's "100 percent certain" that Clark Rockefeller is the same person who lived in the Savio family home under the name Christian Gerhart Reiter at age 17.

They had answered Reiter's newspaper advertisement seeking a place to live, Savio said.

Savio confirmed a report in Thursday's Boston Herald that the FBI has interviewed his family.

He said they also talked to Greenwich, Conn., police in the late 1980s about Reiter and his possible connection to a missing California couple, whose stolen truck was found in Connecticut.
