NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Emerald Square Mall was evacuated today because of a fire in the space between the Elite Trading Ideas store and Bertucci's restaurant, according to the fire chief. No one was reported injured and the two-alarm, electrical fire was deemed accidental, North Attleboro Fire Chief Peter Lamb said. Firefighters went to the mall, at 999 South Washington St., shortly after 11 a.m. Lamb said the mall reopened to customers at about 1:30 p.m. Firefighters responded to a reported burning odor. The fire was confined to a relatively small area, Lamb said, but it eventually generated a lot of smoke visible in parts of the mall. From Massachusetts, North Attleboro, Plainfield and Attleboro personnel went to the scene and, from Rhode Islander, Cumberland personnel. -- projo.com staff writer Michael P. McKinney |
