The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for south-facing beaches from 4 p.m. today until 8 a.m. tomorrow. The high surf will produce rip currents. Southwest winds have built up seas of five feet just south of Block Island and Martha's Vineyard. Those waves are expected to build to seven feet. Rip currents are strong but narrow currents of water flowing from the beach to the surf zone, the weather service says. |
