Today's front page features a story about federal agents and the state police raiding courthouses and arresting workers believed to be illegal immigrants. Those arrested work for two contractors hired by the state and are believed to be maintenance workers.

So I guess this means that there will be 30 or so job openings for AMERICANS?

Greg, I bet you and your family members will be first in line to apply for those cushy maintenance jobs! Cleaning public toilets, sweeping up ciggy butts, mopping floors: U.S. citizens will be busting down the doors to land such great minimum-wage career-starters.

Gov.Carcieri's subcontracting/privatizing of the lowest paid state workers,i.e. janitorial staff ,has resulted in more costs* for the taxpayers ,but more money for the few owners of these employment agencies who,to keep their payrolls down and profits up,hire undocumented workers who will work for wages that don't even approach a 'living wage'. On top of it all,we have to listen to political posturing ,and the concommitant rhetoric, on the part of politicians and others who don't seem to comprehend the meaning of the word illegal, see a vast untapped well of voters who could make or break their campaigns for higher office,or hide their anti-union sentiments under the guise of tax savings. In the end though, a bigger bill is sent to the taxpayers who they believe don't comprehend the subterfuge or hidden agendas. To Carcieri,Cicilline and the rest of their ilk,be they Republicans and Democrats,be prepared for some surprises this Nov. * education and medical for their children, federal and state police OT,etc.

My sister works in the courthouse as a STATE employee and does not have access to every part of the building...yet the courthouse allows the illegal immigrants to have access to EVERY part of the courthouse. Something is really screwed up there..but what can you expect from a corrupt state.

Head over to the Sesame Street website and take a quick civics lesson in how our government works. You'll notice there are three branches of government. Our governor is head of the Executive branch. The General Assembly is in the Legislative branch. Can you guess which branch is in charge of the courthouses in Rhode Island? Here's a hint ... none of the above!
I for one wish Carcieri did have control over all branches as he could do some serious house cleaning. Unfortunetly he can't so our state continues to be the bottom of the barrel as far as being compared to all other states. What are we? 48th out of the continental 48? I sure feel proud!

Hey Elizabeth, maybe not Greg and his family but arguments like yours are stupid. Do you think those 300 factory jobs in New Bedford were cushy? they were filled in about two days. That's the problem with people like you, your arguments are so desperate and lame, you can't get out of your own way. You insult every janitor who has to do jobs like cleaning toilets and sweeping up cigarettes and seem to have little idea that millions of legal Americans are doing jobs just like this every day, whether they're a janitor or work for Merry Maids. So go back to your posh life as an ultra liberal windbag and leave poor people like Greg, who made an innocent, ACCURATE comment, alone.
