PROVIDENCE -- The City Licensing Board gave unanimous approval for a liquor license for the Puerto Rican Cultural Festival, a move that will enable the festival to go forward tonight starting at 6 p.m. Festival organizers were previously denied a liquor license, a rejection that they said put their event in jeopardy. They said they would not have been able to retain sponsorship from Budweiser or pay for police details if they coudn't serve alcohol. But the three Licensing Board members this afternoon quickly approved the permit after the board had earlier requested more information about the festival from the organizers. Board member Gordon Fox praise festival organizers for presenting a much more detailed plan for the festival. -- Journal staff writer Mark Arsenault CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
