PROVIDENCE -- The city's six pools and nine water parks will stay open two hours later on weekdays beginning Monday, Mayor David N. Cicilline's office announced.

Normally open from noon until 5 p.m, the water spots will stay open until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weekend hours will remain noon until 5 p.m. "unless a decision is made to extend the hours due to excessively hot weather," the mayor's office said in a statement.

"It's important to do everything we can to ensure that our children are engaged in fun, safe activities this summer," Cicilline said. "We have some of best pools and water parks in Rhode Island, and they're free."

The pools and water parks are open seven days a week and staffed by lifeguards and staff members.
