Customers line up outside the AT&T store on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston today for the release of the new iPhone. Gadi Shemtov, left, who hopes to upgrade to the new iPhone before leaving for Israel later today, shows Rick Wilson his old phone while the two wait in line. The new model updates the popular device launched a year ago by speeding up Internet access and adding a navigation chip. The new phone went on sale today in 22 countries. In most of them it was the first time any iPhone was officially sold there, though several countries have seen a brisk grey-market trade in phones imported from the U.S.

Well, good for these people....I guess they are not affected by the utility rate increases. It's good to see not everybody in this state is just barely getting by.

The Apple Store in the Providence Place Fortress also had a line (and currently has one!) that is a couple hundred people in size. It will be fun to watch the line double when the regular workforce gets out for the day.

Hahaha, just wait until the guy tries to get into Israle with that thing! They will take it all apart and he will be left with a bag of hot-off-the-press pieces. Sure hope he is an electronic engineer capable of putting it all back together. Do us a favor, take a photo of the sizzling pile of parts and post it on ProJo when you return.

[Think I'm kidding? When I went there, they took apart my suspicious-looking bag of saltine crackers. Other tourists with fancy-schmancy equipment were nearly in tears over what was left of their precious stuff.]

Glad they can afford such luxury
