The state medical examiners office has not yet determined the cause of death for a man who apparently drowned Saturday while swimming with his son and daughter at World War II Memorial State Park in Woonsocket.

The cause of death for Sidney Jones, 47, is pending further studies, according to Annemarie Beardsworth at the state Department of Health.

Jones had swum out to a concrete diving platform in the park's pond with his 14-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter around 1 p.m., according to Lt. Frank P. Floor of the state Environmental Police.

Jones swam with his daughter about 80 feet from the platform to the shore of the pond. As he swam back toward the platform to get his son, he went under, Floor said.

Half a dozen passersby went to Jones' aid, including a woman who performed CPR, but they were unable to revive him.
