A Coventry man remains in critical condition four days after authorities found him unresponsive and his wife dead in their home. Ronald L. Gardner, Jr., 33, was listed in critical condition at Kent Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman. According to the hospital's Web site, critical patients have unstable and abnormal vital signs and indicators are considered "unfavorable." A statement from the state medical examiners office said yesterday that officials had not yet determined a cause of death for Shelly M. Gardner, 34, a mother of six children. (Read her obituary.) Coventry police say they were sent to the Gardner residence Saturday morning after a relative called asking that someone check on the family. When the police arrived, they found Shelly Gardner dead at the house and Ronald Gardner "unresponsive." Authorities have not released the nature of the couple's injuries, or any details other than to describe Ronald Gardner's condition as "grave." |
